Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams
The Old Oaken Bucket History
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
In 1951, the student bodies of Suwannee High School and Columbia
High School entered into the following agreement.
In order to create a friendly spirit, a closer pupil relationship, and a
wholesome rivalry between the two schools, the students originated the
trophy “OLD OAKEN BUCKET” to be presented to the school winning
the yearly football game.
This trophy is to be presented to the captain of the winning team by the
captain of the losing team at the conclusion of the game.
The school winning the trophy could keep it in its possession until the
other team won.
This was to continue for a period of ninety-nine years or until the
schools severed their athletic relationship.
The winning team is to be responsible for keeping the trophy up-to-date
by having the date and score of each team properly engraved on the
trophy plate.
In case of a tie game, the school in possession of the trophy was to keep
it until they lost a game.
