Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams
Gran’daddy’s Mule
O r Sadie was her name,
She was old
and she was lame
But when you called, She always came.
Ain’t it so.
Pullin’ plows and haulin’ wood,
Life for her
was not so good,
Giddy-up she understood,
But, oh, so slow.
Never grumbled while she ate,
Standing there
behind the gate,
But she brayed when it was late,
Bring some mo’.
Never once heard her complain,
Though I knew
she suffered pain,
Horseflies biting through her mane,
Tale of woe.
Riding in the wagon seat,
All dressed up
so very neat,
Nose to tail was not so sweet,
She would blow.
Didn’t seem so very smart,
But when that mule
began to fart,
She was expressing her opinion,
Don’t ya’ know.
