Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams
There is actually an old lumber mill settlem ent outside Palatka called Plum
Nelly, so named because it was ‘plum’ out of town and ne’ly in the
country.
SKIPPING AROUND '
Congratulations to our very own Andrea Powell (CHS 1983) for her
hilarious acting performance in the December 11 NBC television movie
“The Year without a Santa Claus” . She “ book-ended the whole comedy
as a vainly ambitious television reporter” , complete with miniskirt and high
heels — in the snow!
*Our local public library is well known for its excellent service and helpful,
conscientious staff, some of whom have been there many years. Library
services supervisor Mary Williams started in 1980. Beverly Schultz,
Charlotte James, and Barbara Gray started in 1987, and Linda Thomas in
1988. These ladies and their fine colleagues make our public library the
treasure that it is and we thank them.
*Barbara and Earl W atts are two of the most respected educators in our
school system’s recent past. Barbara was our Director of School Food
services and Earl was the beloved principal of the Kindergarten Center.
Now retired, they live in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where they grow daylilies
(their ‘hobby gone wild’)-b u t their main love is being grandparents to
Christian who is now a six year old first grader.
You can write them at 60 Serene Meadows Drive, Hattiesburg, MS 39402,
or email them at bhw@netdoor.com or call them at 601-268-3884. They
are always glad to her from their Lake City friends.
KINDERGARTEN HUMOR
On the first day of school, a kindergarten teacher told her class that
anytime they needed to use the bathroom just to raise their hand.
A small kid in the back row said, “And just how is THAT going to help?!”
