Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams
The Old Two-Holer Behind the House
When I remember olden days,
With simple lives and country ways,
I think of one small frame deserving praise,
- The old two-holer behind the house.
No structure seems more heaven-sent,
To those whose frame is “nature-bent”,
Toward the place of “time-well-spent”,
- The old two-holer behind the house.
And in those times of quiet repose,
When not a thought of work arose,
The human mind to neutral goes,
- In the old two-holer behind the house.
A house of musing, or so it seems,
With Sears and Roebuck wish-book dreams,
Fantacising, unaffordable, hopeful schemes,
- In the old two-holer behind the house
A place where where quiet solitude,
Protects a personal, private mood,
Give a cough and don’t be rude,
- In the old two-holer behind the house.
Alas, the little house is gone, they say,
Making room for minds at play,
Remembering that we did it “that-a-way”,
- In the old two-holer behind the house.
