Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams

I played "center" and "defensive tackle" and managed to be

named "runner up in the district" for my defensive play.

I did have a good time, and my teammates and I had a great

time coming out to the farm, the Health Club, after games and
partying and doing what boys do.

Daddy would meet us all, take up the car keys, take away the
guns, and say, "Have a great time".

Always plenty of food in the fridge, a pot of chili or something my
mother had cooked for us all and when she got out of sight, lots
of smoking cigarettes and a little drinking of some beer too.

We were not angels, but compared to what goes on today, we
              were close.

Gwen Morrell, a classmate, was elected STATE secretary of the
National Honor Society, and David Hall, a school friend in a grade
below me, created some of the most innovative posters for her.

She beat a girl from a huge Catholic School in Pensacola and it
was almost unheard of, but she won.

The girl against whom she ran was named "Susan Angst" and she
seemed to be so sure of winning that she didn't show up for a lot
of the events at the hotel, and when the ballots were counted,
she had "angst", because other than the votes from her school,
              she lost in a landslide.

Gwen was and is a marvelous person and she represented the
               National Honor Society well.

I want to mention a teacher here, Mr. Aivin Brunk. Mr. Brunk
              taught math.

Let me re-phrase that, he imparted his knowledge to those who
had exceptional math acumen and the rest of us, he kind of
               humiliated.
