Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams
I liked him as a person. I did not like him as a teacher, and he
severely undermined my confidence.
Robin Barnett Hairs a lifetime friend of mine in White Springs,
and I recall several other students.
Joy Duren Thomas was a great friend, and she is till this day. She
wore high platform shoes, and she helped me a lot in math, and I
needed it.
She would, at times, get disgusted with me, and kick me with
those platform shoes. I think I still have dents in my shins where
she kicked me.
Now, if you had exceptional math ability, Mr. Brunk had all the
time in the world for you, and you were his best friend, and he
worked tirelessly with those students, but if you were just
average or struggled, he had no time for you or little time, other
than to put you down. He always reminded me of a "mad stork"
about to pounce.
Mr. Brunk died several years ago from a brain aneurism. I was
sorry. He was a good man, just not a good teacher, in my
opinion. It was not until I had Mr. Wiley Russell at Lake City
Community College that my confidence in mathematics was
restored. He was WONDERFUL, probably the best math teacher I
ever had.
The Academy staff my senior year remained about the same,
except Mr. Kratzer left the school and he was replaced by another
coach.
I can't even recall his name, isn't that funny. I didn't play
football my senior year. I was busy preparing to take college
entry exams, and my Daddy wanted all emphasis on that.
He let me know I was sent over there for a "reason" and not for
the "season". It was okay with me; I didn't particularly like the
coach anyhow.
