                                        The administrator of the hospital lived in the house
                                          (see white arrow above) in front of the hospital.

                                                   Buffalo Bill in Lake City

                                         “Buffalo Bill and His Wild West Show” performed in Lake
                                 City on October 17, 1912, putting on a memorable show at CHS’s
                                 first football field, which is now the east parking lot of the V.A. Hos-
                                 pital.


                                                        Watertown Mill


                                         In 1915, the Watertown Mill, owned by A.G. Paul, opened
                                 and slowly added more and more workers till it reached over 100
                                 employees in World War I. The lumberyard there, called the Florida
                                 East Coast Lumber Company, was at one time the largest one in
                                 Florida. The company town associated with the mill had its own school,
                                 facilities, and commissary. It continued to thrive until a large fire in
                                 1922, combined with the devastating effects of the Great Depression,
                                 greatly curtailed operations at the mill.
