Judy Markham
Pittman (CHS 1970) went
on to the UF Law School,
from which she graduated
(1976) and was eventually
appointed to a county
judgeship in Panama City by
Governor Bob Graham. In
the 1990s she was elected
and re-elected Circuit Judge
of the 14th Judicial District,
which includes the counties
of Bay, Calhoun, Gulf,
Holmes, Jackson, and
Washington. She is the only
woman to graduate from
CHS who became a circuit Judge Judy Markham Pittman
judge.
Coach Bob Simmons, Coach John Justice, and counselor
Tom Grubb organized the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at CHS in
1971.
The police chiefs that decade were Leslie P. Millins (1961
- 1976) and Paul K. Philpot (1976 - 1980). The county
superintendents of public instruction that decade were Silas Pittman
(1968 - 1973, 1977 - 1988) and Frank Phillips (1977).
The mayors that decade were J.R. Tison (mayor 1961 -
1974), Herbert F. Darby (mayor after J.R. Tison resigned in 1974,
then mayor from 1974 to 1975), James D. Ward (mayor 1975 -
1976), Paul Roy (mayor after James Ward resigned and then mayor
in 1976), Gerald Witt (mayor 1976 - 1978), and James R. Tison
(1978 - 1980). In 1977, the charter changed the form of government
to a manager - council form of government.
