Lake City - Columbia County Historical Museum
In 1982, a group of history-minded citizens organized the
Historic Preservation Board of Lake City and Columbia County, Inc.
In the following year, the board agreed with the Blue – Grey Army
Inc. to purchase the home of John Vinzant Jr., restore it to its former
beauty, and use it as the museum and headquarters for the Blue –
Grey Army and the Preservation Board, as well as a historical and
cultural center. John Vinzant Jr. was an early settler of Columbia County
after the Civil War, in which he was wounded. Today the museum at
157 S.E. Hernando Avenue has exhibits, artifacts, photos, and
memorabilia from the storied past of the city and county. The museum
is open on Wednesdays from 2 to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10
a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free. The web site of the museum:

Meade Ministries
In 1984, Reverend Charles Meade and his family moved
with more than 100 followers to Lake City. The Meade Ministries are
sometimes referred to by local residents as “End Timers,” a group of
people who have a huge, magnificent church south of Lake City. Many
of them live in the Southwood Acres subdivision. They became one of
the most highly discussed sects in the history of the city.
