Lake City, Florida: A Sesquicentennial Tribute (2009) H. Morris Williams, Dr. Kevin M. McCarthy
Chapter Nine: 1890 - 1899
Other schools in Lake City in the 1890s
In 1893, officials built a permanent school building in Lake
City: the Lake City Graded and High School, located near where the
District School Board Complex is today. It burned down in the 1950s.
The Lake City Graded and High School
Another early school, lo-
cated at Watertown, is remembered
today by a bell that is now at the
entrance to the School Administra-
tive Complex on West Duval Street.
When the Watertown school closed
around 1959, officials took the
school’s hand-rung bell (pictured to
the right) and moved it to the newly
opened Eastside Elementary School.
