Lake City, Florida: A Sesquicentennial Tribute (2009) H. Morris Williams, Dr. Kevin M. McCarthy

                                                                           Chapter Ten: 1900 - 1909

                                               A cheerleader for Columbia College

In 1907, Lake City officials leased the former property of the
Florida Agricultural College (FAC) to the Florida Baptist Convention
to establish Columbia College, a Baptist school. It would last there

for ten years. Hopes for Columbia College ran high when the trustees
hired as its president Dr. H.W. Tribble in 1909. The energetic,
charismatic leader might have been able to take the school to further
heights if he had not been tragically killed in 1912. (Details in the next
                                 chapter.)
