many donations to the library and got the Lake City Laundry to donate free laundry services to the
clinic.
MRS. A. K. BLACK (1940 and various other years)... She advanced and popularized the
PTA lunchroom program to the point where more than 5,000 meals were served monthly to students
in 1 -12 grades. Led a fund-raiser to purchase tools for the agriculture classes. She led a movement
to retain the ninth month of the school year which was about to be dropped for financial
reasons. Pushed for a program whereby each child in school would be regularly weighed, measured
and examined for signs of speech, hearing, vision, dental and tonsil problems. Got local pharmacies
to donate basic drugs and first aid supplies to the clinics.
Much good was done afterwards and is still being done by PTAs and PTOs but special credit

they are stooping to help kids, these splendid trailblazers stand like magnificent giants in the history
of our education community.

OUT OF BONDAGE_______If you like religious music presented in a beautiful, spiritual and
highly listenable format, you will want to hear “Out of Bondage,” an album done by Lake City’s
Donald Johns and Company. Available on compact disc or tape, Donald wrote both the words and
music for songs like “My Gethsemane” and “Peace Through the Storm.” The album is dedicated
in memory of Donald’s cousin, Terrie Milton, and his sister, Brenda Johns ... “To Terrie, whose
love and faith in Jesus Christ was an inspiration to all who knew her,” and “To Brenda, who inspired
these songs while she lay helpless in a coma for 16 days until the Lord Jesus took her home.” You
can call Donald at 752-9459 for more information.
