rosters of college football teams. They are: Yatil Green (Miami), Reihard Wilson (FSU), Shayne
Edge and Demetric Jackson (Florida), Antonio Bradwell (Louisville), Kevin Mills (Bethune-

Cookman), and Tommy Homsby (Brown University). It has been a long time since we have had
seven CHS alumni on college rosters at one time.

                                            Memories of Family

FAMILY MEMORIES . -. All of us have family memories that stand out in our minds.

                Here are some of mine.
MY DADDY_____ Lordy, I loved to play football when I was a little kid and daddy knew it.

So, one Christmas he gave me a new football. I was so happy I rushed to a nearby vacant field and
started punting. The wind was right so my kicks seemed to go higher than usual. One kick went so

high I just stood back and watched it spiral slowly downward. Then, trouble. The ball came down
in a nest of power lines and started a fire that spread to the power pole and then to some trees. I was
terrified. It seemed like the whole field was on fire. The fire truck came, siren wailing. A crowd

gathered. The noise and confusion terrified me. I ran home to tell Daddy. He grabbed his hat and
together we went back to the field. By then the fire was out and things had settled down. Daddy said,

“Let’s go,” and we walked to the fire department and found the chief -1 think it was Mr. DuPriest.
“My son has something to tell you,” Daddy said. I gritted my teeth and told the chief I had started
the fire and how it had happened and that I was very sorry and it would never happen again. Daddy

told the chief we would stand good for the damages. The chief thanked Daddy for coming and said
he was sure things could be worked out. We left and I asked Daddy what my punishment would be.

He told me he thought I had been punished enough for one day, the bad scare and losing my football
and all. As usual, he was right. That was the day I knew I wanted to grow up and be just like my
               daddy.
