Charter of the City of Lake City
Sec. 3. An election shall be held annually
on the second Tuesday in April and there shall 74/257
be elected at such time, in all even numbered
years, a Mayor, Clerk, Treasurer, Tax Assessor,
Tax Collector and Marshal, and three Councilmen,
and in all odd numbered years there shall be elected
four Councilmen. Such officers shall each hold
their respective offices for the term of two years
and until their successors are elected and qualified.
Sec. 4. It shall be the duty of the Mayor, at
least ten days prior to the holding of any general
or special election, to appoint three intelligent,
discreet and fair-minded inspectors of election
and a clerk of election to conduct such election,
all of whom shall be residents and registered,
qualified electors of the city, Provided, They shall
not all belong to the same political party. They
shall each receive one dollar and twenty-five cents
for their services on the day of election. No elector
who cannot read and write the English language
shall be appointed inspector or clerk of election.
Sec. 5. It shall be the duty of the Mayor, at
least ten days before any election, to issue his
proclamation calling such election, naming the
inspectors and clerk appointed, and shall publish
the same in some newspaper published in the city.
Sec. 6. Upon application for registration each
elector shall be required to take and subscribe the
following oath: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm)
that I will protect and defend the Constitution
of the United States and of the State of Florida;
that I am twenty-one years of age and have been
a resident of the State of Florida for twelve months
and of this city for six months next preceding the
