Vera Kilgore Heilig: Her Poetry Lives (2017) H. Morris Williams, Marie Law Haire
PREFACE
The late Vera Kilgore Heilig, a Lake City native, was a born
poet and wordsmith. Her poetry has appeared in many books
and magazines.
Just before her death, she entrusted her unpublished poems to
me.
When I first received these poems they were written on assorted
scraps of paper and 3x5 cards.
Enter Marie Law Haire, a former student and a remarkable poet
herself.
Marie read and fell in love with Vera’s poetry, just as I had
done, and we both wanted to keep Vera’s poetry alive.
So, Marie organized all of Vera’s poems into the form you see in
this book, and typed them.
For my part I sponsored the publishing of this book.
Together, Marie and I want to show that Vera’s poetry still lives!
