Vera Kilgore Heilig: Her Poetry Lives (2017) H. Morris Williams, Marie Law Haire
Bargain Days
I count that day well spent
Whose low descending sun
Finds me with even half the things
My schedule called for done.
But better spent I count
The day whose rising sun
Found me a truant from my work
Spending the hours for fun.
Many Shouldn’t
A miniskirt’s an awful sight
On anyone whose legs aren’t right,
An no one should expose her knees
Whose legs look like parentheses.
Leave us a Leaf
Any mini minus more
Makes a meager cover for
Gals who holler when hems go
Higher than they mean to show.
