Prop
When my strength fails me God lends me a prop.
He leans somebody else against me. Then
I find my strength is as the strength of ten
Because His hand is sure to hold me up.
I cannot fail when I have heard the call
To stabilize a weaker brother’s feet.
I must stand steadfast then to help him meet
His adversary. Hold him lest he fall.
That other one who draws his strength from me
Unknowingly supports me by his need
And I who am a weak and trembling reed
Am turned into a strong and sturdy tree.
Tangle
I said “The Lord has so much work to do
I will not bring my cares to Him today.
These matters I can cope with by myself.”
And so I did not take the time to pray.
Now ruefully I pull at snarled knots
Of tangled string I tried to tie in bows.
My clumsy fingers need His guiding hand
To show me which direction each strand goes.
