Hit the Track!

There are two breeds of tracksters at
CSHS. A few are serious, addicted to
running, and train year-round for
the track season. The rest are foot-
ball players getting in shape for
spring practice. From those diverse
types, Coach Justice and Coach Col-
vin attempt to mold a true track
team. Coach Justice handles the
runners and Coach Colvin works
with the shot putters and discus
throwers. Most seniors shy away
from track, but a dedicated handful
go out anyway. Since the team pic-
ture was taken a week before prac-
tice began, it only gives an outline of
the team, omitting many that
worked hard. This year's team is
strong in sprinters but weak at dis-
tance runners, with only miler and
two miler Jay Huddleston having
winning experience at distance runs.
Junior Gary Williams is the only
three year man on the squad; but
was ineligible for competition when
he was a freshman. As a sophomore,
he won many 440's.
