The Columbia Tigers boys basketball team
started the 2002-2003 season with an 8-0 run, the best
start for Tiger Basketball in 8 years. Tiger success
moved the record to 1 0-1 before a mid-season slump
marred the once glossy record. In December the Tiger
cagers finished second in the twelve team Sunshine
Classic in Daytona Beach. The Tigers defeated Louis-
ville Southern and Melbourne en route to the champion-
ship game, the first loss for CHS this season. The
Sunshine Classic field included two teams from Canada, 5
and teams from Kentucky, Mississippi, New York, and
the Bahamma Islands.
Other season highlights included hosting the
Boys District Basketball Tournament in February.
The Tigers challenged strong teams from
Gainesville, Buchholz, Orange Park, and Belleview for
district supremacy. The 2002- 2003 edition of Tiger
basketball produced another winning season and an
exciting, entertaining team for the faithful fans.
