Lesson' learned alj [ways on tlie c[ock
When the last bell rings the work has just begun. Students tend to
find themselves not only juggling school work and classes but often
times holding a job or volunteering. There are those that throw them-
selves into the "real world" in order to have some
financial gain not realizing at the same time it is helping them to be-
come a more responsible young adult.
But working 9-5 doesn't mean just holding down a job. Everyday
there are students who freely give of their time to mentor middle
school students. In the beginning it could be just for the volunteer
hours, but soon enough it becomes much more than that. It becomes a
friendship. These students frequently give a young teenager someone
to look up to, a trusted person that they can turn toward when they
have no one else.
This time of year is also known as the season of giving. That is why
many clubs and organizations of our school have taken the responsi-
bility to hold a Christmas party each year for children in our commu-
nity. It gives many kids, including ourselves, the opportunity to feel
the true essence of the season.
By participating in these activities or having a job students have
the chance to find themselves. It opens up so many doors. Students
learn how to manage money, time, and essentially it helps them to un-
derstand the importance of others. In giving they receive something
much more. They have the opportunity to leave their mark on some-
one else's life and that is the best gift of all.
