What is summer? What kind of magic
does this six-letter word possess that has
so many meanings yet seems so
indescribable? Let me break it down.
Summer is rain and sunshine, waves and
wakes, smoothies, bonfires and long
nights spent in good company.
It's the bonds formed between new
friends and the tightening of bonds
between old friends. Sleeping in the
next day 'til 3:00p.m. because we just
HAD to watch the entire Star Wars
trilogy.
Summer is yoo-hoos and flip-flops and
the sand that got into our bathing suits-
again. It's slip-n-slides and belly flops.
It's love and loss and lazy days. It creeps
up on us and leaves us with a terrible
sunburn.
It's babysitting for money to buy that
perfect party dress and curfews that
don't exist (yeah, right). It's rapping
along to Lil' Wayne with all the car win-
dows down and A LOT of fast food.
It's a time to live it up and a time to
slow it down. It's the short-lived freedom
among us all and it's fueled by teen
spirit. It's the memories we will look
back on - believin' we owned the night.
In some way, summer is how we truly
made our mark-on the world and in our
hearts.
