Every year, starting at the end of October, science teach-
ers all over the nation start explaining their required science

fair projects. They hope to have a few students attend the state
science fair and even the international science fair. Although
science fair is viewed as an "unnecessary requirement" for
some students, others take the opportunity to rise above their
peers and excel in the science field. Columbia High School
took this opportunity to shine with 20 individuals from three
different grades advancing to the regional level. Mrs. Silver-

stein is very confident that her students will do well and also
believes eight or ten students, at least, will be advancing to the
       state level.
One of the things that sophomores look forward to is the
last time they will have to do a science project. Most do their
experiments the night before and make up data that they can
easily work with. But the other small percentage of students ac-

tually try and spend two months on experiements to showcase
on large pieces of cardboard. Their work pays off when they
reach the next level -regional or even state.
