It takes a special per on to volunteer. A selfless, compassionate, faci ".a'"'ll
person that takes time out of his or her bu y schedule to help out peo
complete trangers, for no pay. The e people do not care whether or o
compensated lor their dedicated time and commitment to volunte m
feeling that comes with helping others and contributing to their com nity is pay-
ment enough. Many students at Columbia High School volunteer at places like local
elementary school , churche , and the Veteran's Hospital. One benefit to being a
dedicated volunteer is that many colleges seek out those applicants who have plenty
of volunteer hours. But student volunteering is not limited to working just within our
community. We also have students who volunteer internationally. Volunteer Elizabeth
Schafer (12th) states "volunteering is great because not only are you helping others
but you are bettering yourself as a person. It feels really good to know that you've done something nice for
someone, even il you don't know the
person. It' not just for the required
volunteering hours. I do it because I
know that I'm making a difference and
doing my part for my community and
that feels great!".
