                                                   MEXICAN WAR



                                After the United States bec'ine involved in.wr.r with Mexico

                          Florid;; was authorized three companies of fiflemen to be
                          design ted as the ’’Florid' Volunteer* B- ttr lion" . (Companies
                          A, B, & C) In June of 1847, Comp-ny C w-s organized ?t

                          Allig-tor by Capt. Robert G. Livingston of Newmah^ille(Al'chu-).
                          After bout two months training,this comp-ny m-rched to

                          Tall- h-ssee -nd on 14 August 1847 vr s presented - fl-fe by
                          Governor Mosely. Ex-Governor Duv-1 delivered sn "Oration".
                          The unit then moved to St. M-rks -nd shipped out to Mexico,

                          -rriving -t Ver- Cruz 30 September 1847. The other companies
                          of the b-tt-lion remained in the United States.



                                Livingston's Comp- ny w--s -ssigned to gu-rd communic-tions,
                          marching first to J-l-h-, -rriving 1 November 1847. By 1 Dec
                          1847, the unit v/^s ' t Puebla; rem- ining there until the w-r

                          ended. Returning to Florid- the. Comp-ny w~s mustered out 8
                          July 1848.      _
