History of Military Units in Columbia County, FL (1970) Robert Gary Shields






                         Capt. A. J. T. Wright, commanding the company listed in the letter,
                    was a prominent citizen of Lake City, related to the James E. Young
                    family who were amoung the founders of the First National Bank of Lake

                    City. Capt. Wright appears again in Columbia County military history as
                    a Lt. Col in the Confederacy.



                         Colonel M. Whit Smith listed as commanding the companies dhring this
                    Indian War was also prominent in local history. He was elected first Mayor

                    of Lake City when the name was changed from Alligator in 1859. "Whit" and
                    "Ives" are both mentioned in the accompaning letter from Capt. Wright
                    to a friend. This letter is dated at "Old Clay Landing" a point on the

                    Suwannee River, near it's mouth, now known as Fowler's Bluff
