Second Seminole War 1854-55
After the First Seminole War (1835 - 1842) and the Mexican War (1847 -
1848) the various communities continued to maintain their own militia.
At the beginning of hostilites in 1854, around the Manatee River, the foliowin
units were ordered to the front by Governor Broome:

Stewart's companies.
Field and Staff Officers of this war included several men from Lake City,
such as Colonel M. Whit Smith and Asst. Quartermaster Edward R. Ives
