Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams

              COLUMBIA COUNTY LIBRARY TRANSFORMERS

              JUNE 1996

At its recent annual conference, the Florida Library Association

recognized key persons who have transformed libraries in their

communities. Eight Columbia Countians were honored for their efforts
to improve library services. The following sketches describing thè
contributions of each transformer appeared in a special conference

              publication.

              Eileen Brunner

As a Library Director, Eileen Brunner was among the first in Florida to
automate a public library. Since her retirement, she has continued her

efforts as an advocate for public libraries. She is an active member of
state and local Friends organizations and speaks out on library issues.

Her work made the Columbia County Public Libraiy a center of
              community life.

Eileen Brunner’s extraordinary contribution during her years as Director
of the Columbia County Public Library is still felt throughout the

County. She is now bringing her expertise, good humor, and cooperative
spirit to the leadership of the Florida Library Association Friends and

               Trustees Caucus.

               Claudia Clark

Claudia Clark realized the importance of having an ALA-trained
librarian working in the library. She had the political savvy to get herself

appointed to the Libraiy Board. She then planned for the first trained
librarian to be hired at the Columbia County Public Library in 1974.

This action transformed the library into an award-winning rural library.
