Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams
Lucy Cole
Library employee Lucy Cole single-handedly entered the data from the
collection and circulation records (50,000+books and 20,000+patrons) in
1980-81, allowing Columbia County Public Library to be one of the first
libraries in the state to have computerized circulation records and a
public access catalog. Lucy accomplished this feat while managing and
operating circulation. She also was the only staff member willing to act
as acting director during a difficult transitional period. She is now retired
but still volunteers.
Bob Garner
Bob Gamer, General Manager of Time Warner Cable, donated the
equipment and trained the staff to enable the library to have a cable
channel originating in the library- the first in Florida. This channel
serves as the community bulletin board and allows the library to have an
up-to-date database on community activities and organizations. Bob also
has been an active Friend of the Library.
Robert Horesovskv
As President of the Friends of the Library, Horesovsky wanted the
library open more hours. He thought of the unique idea of having the
Friends fund the cost of an extra night and Sunday operating hours for a
three-month trial period. Data convinced Commissioners to fund 68
library hours per week. This was the turning point in making the library
a true community service organization.
Bob Mann
Bob Mann was the first Information and Referral Coordinator in
Columbia County. He was the first to operate the cable channel which
originated in the Library. He was always cheerful, and he brought a
diverse group of people into the library to discuss community activities.
