Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams

After World War II, I purchased from Harry P. Baya, Tampa lawyer, his

Block 352, S. D., of land on South Marion Street, opposite of the VA
              Hospital.

I leased it to R. A. George for his Lincoln-Mercury Dealership there.

“Franks Tavern” (Frank Harbin Roy, my brother), was a popular bar for
              the doctors and businessmen.

In the sports area: At the University of Florida field, Gainesville, “Sprint
Medley” track events were held in 1939. CHS team of O’Neil Hill, Jack

Davis, Billy Hale, and I set a new high school mile relay record that
stood for many years, less than a 4 minute mile.

As a Lake City photographer, I made photos at Camp OTeno and Bok
Singing Tower, FFA trip to Mayport for deep-sea fishing, and around

CHS for the CHS yearbook. I believe this was in 1938 and 1939.

Some company took our drawings, written material, etc., and put it all

              together and published them.

After World War II I ran for City Commissioner. I defeated the

incumbent for Precinct 13 City Commissioner, and was elected the
second time without any opposition. The thing was, I had been the

Florida Times Union newspaper carrier for all the people in Precinct 13
and all the people knew me.

During World War II there was no plumbing, piping, or equipment, or
money for our City sewer and water works. We issued $25 million in
bonds for water and sewer improvements. Wallace Jopling was holding

“town hall meetings” to promote support for this bond issue and work.

The sewer plant south of Lake City was broken and rusted, raw

sewerage was flowing down a ditch to Big Lake.

There the water wells were pumping water to the standpipe and water

tower, near Railroad Street. A glass of water within a week was crawling
              with vermin.
