Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams
City Proclamation
*Betty Tannenbaum Day*
February 4,2002
Whereas,
Betty Tannenbaum, along with her late husband Mel Tannenbaum obtained
ownership of The Lovely Shop in downtown Lake City fifty years ago, and;
Betty Tannenbaum owned and operated The Lovely Shop with her son, Doug,
and her two daughters, Susan and Barbara, for thirty-six years following the
death of her beloved husband in 1966, and;
Betty Tannenbaum reared her family in Lake City, Florida, where she has
been and continues to be a vital part of the community and;
The Lovely Shop and Betty Tannenbaum are synonymous when one thinks of
downtown Lake City, and;
Betty Tannenbaum has dressed four generations of North Floridian women
for great events in their lives: proms, weddings, wedding anniversaries, and
other special occasions, and;
The closing of The Lovely Shop marks the “end of an era” in Lake City and
Columbia County history.
Now, therefore, I, W. Ray Kirkland, Mayor of the City of Lake City, Florida,
do hereby proclaim February 4,2002 as
“BETTY TANNENBAUM DAY”
And encourage all citizens of Lake City to show proper respect and honor to
this great citizen of Lake City who has given so much of her life for the
betterment of Lake City and North Florida and furthermore that the Mayor
and City Council present to Betty Tannenbaum the Key to the City of Lake
City.
