Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams
As the health of the two sites were in question, the Superintendent was
instructed to have the same passed upon by the State Board of Health.
Their decision is shown by the following letter.
“Dear Sir,
A survey of the two proposed sites for your school was made by or
j.L
representatives on June 19 . The site chosen by the committee and the
School Board is situated at Mason, the second site being situated near
PamelPs store about a mile from Mason. Both sites are well drained.
The site at Mason is well shaded and was near a large cypress pond
which forms a likely mosquito-breeding place. For this reason the site at
Mason is chosen as the best from a health standpoint.
Very truly yours,
George W. Simins, Jr.
Chief Sanitary Engineer”
The Superintendent was instructed to secure plans and specifications for
the building and to advertise for bids on the same.
The minutes of the August 5, 1924, School Board meeting shows that
bids for the construction of the consolidated school at Mason were
opened and considered.
The bid of Mrs. J.H. McClinton and A.J. Green of $8,440 was
considered the lowest and best bid, and the same was awarded to the
above named parties.
Bids for the transportation of school children were received and
considered at the same meeting.
Mason Route No. 1 was awarded to Mahlon Peeler at $67.50 per month.
Mason Route No. 2 was awarded to W.M. Tyre at $60.00 per month.
Route No. 4 was awarded to E.W. Turner at $80.00 per month.
