Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams

Teenage Florida), Dawn Wimberley, Gina Montpetit, Daune

Overman, Theresa Wainwright, Nancy Robinson, Kim
Guffey, Carla Savage, and I know there were more, but, right
now, I ca nt name them all. We had a great class.

Our homeroom teacher was a Mr. Pershing, an art teacher, who
was a graduate of Bob Jones University, and we had a music
teacher, Mr. Parrow, who I think graduated from Tennessee
Temple College, Mr. Stuart was our math teacher, but he did not
stay the entire year, and we had Mr. Graddy for social studies,
              and Mrs. Langford for English.

I loved Mrs. Langford. And I loved Mr. Starkey, our science
teacher. He was GREAT. He became a great family friend, and I
still think about him and his wife to this day.

Last year, he came to north Florida, bought a copy of "The
Suwannee Democrat", read my newspaper article "Around the
Banks of the Suwannee", and sent a nice note to me. He and his

wife live down in the Titusville area now, I think.

The headmaster that first year was Dr. William Mellor, a

gentleman from Scotland who had a doctorate in theology.

I remember three things about Dr. Mellor, his accent, and his

favorite quote "Goofuhs (Goofers) are Loosuhs (Losers)", and I
remember him singing a duet with Steve Chamberlain,
accompanied by Roger McManus, "Out of the Ivory Palaces".

I think Mr. Graddy taught P.E., but I can't recall.

I do recall the snack bar. You brought lunch or you purchased it
at the snack bar. The snack bar sold milk, pre-made sandwiches,
and I can't remember who made them, but I must have eaten a
ton of the chicken sandwich that year. And doughnuts and
               pastries from Lake City Bakery.

Uniforms could be purchased, but you didn't have to wear them.
