Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams
I also had a GREAT history teacher, Mr. Carr. I loved him. He was
thorough, and he was well informed. He was a graduate of a
college up in Virginia, and I forget which one, but he KNEW world
and American history inside and "out", and he taught me a lot
about how to write a research paper.
My sophomore year went by in a hurry, and, before I turned
around twice, my junior year arrived.
My junior year was 1974-75.
That year, my junior year, I was elected President of the Student
Council and Lake City Academy, president of the National Honor
Society, and President of the Senior Class, our school.
Our headmaster that year was Mr. Lauren Rhine, from
Pennsylvania.
He was a theologian, and had an advanced degree, several in
fact, from major universities including Temple in Philadelphia. I
liked him very much. He was a good Christian and a good man.
Our school had its first football team, the Vikings. We lost every
game except one against a Christian School, Northside Christian,
I think in Jacksonville.
Back then, the Prep Circuit, included: Rolling Green Academy,
Alachua; Marion Academy, Ocala; a Catholic School in Ocala; and
Oak Hall, Gainesville.
Compared to most of them, who had student bodies in excess of
6-700, we were "teeny tiny", but I wasn't.
I started out really not caring much about football, what I cared
about was going on the trips, but, with the help of our coach, Mr.
Gary Kratzer, who was a good looking man, kind of short,
stocky, but sort of an all-around "jock", I got better.
