Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams

That first year, we had a huge Christmas choral concert at Tison

Auditorium. We also went to Disney World and to Tallahassee on
              trips.

Doug Vocelle was a page in the legislature that year for then

              state Rep. Leon McDonald.

People, in general, did not warm up to me that much, because I

was, that year, kind of withdrawn.

Then, one day in a social studies class, a question was
asked, and I answered it in depth, and you could have heard a
              "pin drop".

Later, out in the hall, one of my classmates said "Damn, White
Springs, (they called me "White Springs"), you are bright, smart!

After that, my world, at least in their eyes, shifted.

"White Springs doesn't just talk slow. He is sm art." "White

Springs will you help me on this paper?"

"We will study for the test with White Springs, and he has some
great albums. His Aunt Mary Bullard owns the Music Store. Mary's
              Music Center."

School, by Christmastime, became something to which I looked
              forward.

The school colors were blue and white; the school mascot was the
              Viking.

The first year the school had a basketball team for boys and girls,
and I think a baseball team. Cheerleaders. "V-I-K-I-N-G-S
              Vikings are the VERY BEST".

By year's end, school was school, but I loved it, and was sorry we
said "Good-bye" to probably half of our class who went over to
the public high school, Columbia High School.
