Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams

Some who served two years as SFSA president are Jodi Eichorn, Anna Roberts,
                 Pat Richards, and Pat Pell.

School Food Service employees are among the most valuable people in our
school system— they feed our kids! — and it is wonderful that some of their
chosen leaders are being recognized by this beautiful plaque.

                 THE FIRST FHA LOAN

In 1948, Columbia Countians Flem and Daisy Jones became the first black
citizens in Florida to receive a loan from the Farmers Home Administration to buy
                 a farm.

This loan was officially awarded at a public ceremony at Richardson High School.
The Jones family used the loan to buy a 180-acre farm. Using good farm
management techniques and sound financial practices, they paid off their loan in
full and on time. That farm is still in the Jones Family today.

Ann Allen, School Board Information Specialist, is the maternal granddaughter of
Flem and Daisy Jones. Ann’s son is Brian Allen, a CHS and FSU football star
who also played for the NFL’s Carolina Panthers. Brian is also well known and
much appreciated for his financial support of many education projects at Niblack
                  Elementary School.

Obviously, they are a family of outstanding citizens!

                  SCHOOL MUSEUM THANKS

*To Derrick Tuell (CHS 1989) for a special medallion commemorating the 100th
birthday of CHS (1889-1989). The medallion is attached to a purple and gold
ribbon and was designed so the 1989 grads could wear them around their necks
                  at graduation.

*To June Parkin of June’s Junque Junction (soon to reopen) for CHS yearbooks
from 1978,1981, and 1983 and other donations to be detailed later.

*To Becky Sherrill Linton for a photo of her Mother, Norma Hackney (CHS 1935),
wearing her formal graduation dress the day she graduated from high school.
This photo is significant because just four years later CHS students started
wearing caps and gowns, and the formal wear at graduation became a thing of
                  the past.

*To Joe Persons (CHS 1959) for his CHS 1959 yearbook, special because CHS
1959 was the last senior class to attend the CHS on West Duval Street, now the
                  School Board Complex.
