Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams
• Norman Steadman: He graduated from Fort White
High School, then later returned to serve as
principal— and was principal when the old school
closed in 1969.
• Joel Glenn, Wayne Hollingsworth, Hughey Hawkins,
Sid Dees.
• Bess Rumph Lux: She became a top level official at
the Florida Department of Education and created the
Florida ‘Teacher of the Year’ program.
• Quinton Rumph: He also walked the halls of Fort
White High School as a young kid, later became an
attorney— and he and his wife Ann have set up a 3
million dollar scholarship endowment benefiting
mainly future Ft. White High School graduates.
And that pretty well brings us up to date.
As you can see, we now have a beautiful building but this
school also has a marvelous, proud heritage and tradition.
And we are here today to pass the torch of that proud
heritage on to a new generation of students, teachers, and
staff.
And also to a new generation of citizens of this area who
were not here in the old days.
To all of you, accept this torch proudly and hold it high. It is
now yours to protect and enhance.
The former generations pass you this torch with unbounded
confidence and unlimited love.
They would say to you, shoot for the stars. The sky’s the
limit.
