Chapter Twelve: 1920 - 1929
One of the clubs at CHS was the Harkness Literary Society
(pictured above), named after R.B. Harkness Sr., a physician in the
community, president of the Board of Education, a founder of Lake
Shore Hospital, and the father of Robert Harkness Jr., who is hon-
ored in the name of the local National Guard Armory.
The 1922 – 1923 CHS football team. Coach Blakely is on the
left. The man on the back right is Brantley Brannon, who co-
founded the Law Firm of Brannon and Brown, which still
exists today as Brannon, Brown, Haley, & Bullock.
