Lake City, Florida: A Sesquicentennial Tribute (2009) H. Morris Williams, Dr. Kevin M. McCarthy
Chapter Twelve: 1920 - 1929
Judy Canova (1913-1983), an American comedienne,
actress, singer, and radio personality who has a star on the Hollywood
Walk of Fame for Motion Pictures, was born in Starke but once lived
in Lake City and went to school there for a time. Local elementary
teacher Mrs. M.B. Wilder, who taught Judy and her siblings, Anna
and Zeke, in elementary school, once said she thought Zeke would
become the star because of his sterling performance in the first-grade
minstrel singing “Turkey in the Straw.” Actress Diana Canova is Judy’s
daughter.
