Churches of Lake City
According to A Century in the Sun, Lake City, Florida,
1859 - 1959, the pastors of the Presbyterian Church in Lake City in
the first quarter of the 20th century were Rev. A.E. Spencer, Rev.
S.M. Engle (who was stranded in the city because of floods, was
asked to preach in the local church, and was then persuaded to stay
on as pastor),and then Rev. Dr. E.F. Montgomery Sr., who began
his pastorate in 1926.
During the pastorate of Rev. E.C. Calhoun at the Methodist
Church, workers built Wesley Hall in 1926. In the next year, Rev.
B.F. Rogers conducted the first service in the auditorium of Wesley
Hall.
The First Baptist Church was built in Lake City in 1926.
