                                                                         Chapter Fifteen: 1950 - 1959


                                                Tobacco selling in the 1950s


































                                  Buyers from the major tobacco companies examined samples of
                                   tobacco during the annual auction at the Lake City Warehouse
                                  in the mid-1950s. Tobacco would slowly decrease in importance
                                  as a valuable crop as the smoking habits of Americans changed.




                                            Churches of Lake City in the 1950s



                                         In 1950, Rev. E.B. Heidt replaced Rev. F.I. Fesperman as
                                 pastor of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.

                                         In 1952, Rev. O.W. Luttrell became pastor of the local Meth-
                                 odist Church. Rev. B.M. Montgomery replaced him in 1954 and
                                 served until 1957, when Rev. W.M. Boland became pastor.
