In 1953, Rev. H.J. Wilson, who had founded the first inter-
church Radio Pulpit in America in 1928, began his ministry at the
Advent Christian Church.

In 1956, the Eastside Baptist Church, which was organized in
1952, became a mission of the First Baptist Church with plans to
become independent. Pine Grove Baptist Church, Parkview Baptist
Church (which was organized in 1954), and Calvary Baptist Church
(which was organized in 1955) all added significantly to the buildings
at their sites.

For many years some local Presbyterians used what was known
as the Round Church, which was over one hundred years old.
Tradition said that the church was “built round”
so that the devil would not have a corner to hide in.
