                                                                         Chapter Sixteen: 1960 - 1969
The police chiefs that decade were acting chief Claude King
                                 (1957 - 1961) and Leslie P. Millins (1961 - 1976).

The mayors of Lake City that decade were Murray E. Hagan
                                 (mayor 1947 - 1961) and J.R. Tison (mayor 1961 - 1974).

Scenes around Lake City in the 1960s

Around 1960, Lake City’s State Exchange Bank, then located
at 300 North Marion Street, became one of the area’s first businesses
to provide some “unusual” information on a sign outside their bank—
                                 time and temperature!

In the 1960s, Aero Corporation, located at the old Naval Air
Station near the junior college, became a major employer of local
residents as it hired some 1,400 employees to work on modifying and
refurbishing large aircraft from around the world.

In 1965, Aero Corporation employees paint an airplane.
