Lake City, Florida: A Sesquicentennial Tribute (2009) H. Morris Williams, Dr. Kevin M. McCarthy
Chapter Twenty: 2000 - 2009
The Freedom Tree, located in a park at the corner
of S.W. Lakeview Avenue and S.W. Baya, was planted
in memory of Captain John Clark, who was declared
missing in action in 1969 in the Vietnam War and was later
declared killed in action when his remains were found. His
remains are buried at the Arlington National Cemetery.
The Lake City Woman’s Club “clubhouse” served Lake City
over the years as a Civic Center and a place for social dances,
football banquets, USO entertainment for servicemen in World
War II, and library, as well as a meeting place
for some of the town’s most prominent women.
