                                                                        Chapter Twenty: 2000 - 2009




























                                         The Freedom Tree, located in a park at the corner
                                       of S.W. Lakeview Avenue and S.W. Baya, was planted
                                       in memory of Captain John Clark, who was declared
                                    missing in action in 1969 in the Vietnam War and was later
                                     declared killed in action when his remains were found. His
                                      remains are buried at the Arlington National Cemetery.





















                                     The Lake City Woman’s Club “clubhouse” served Lake City
                                  over the years as a Civic Center and a place for social dances,
                                   football banquets, USO entertainment for servicemen in World
                                          War II, and library, as well as a meeting place
                                           for some of the town’s most prominent women.
