Dorman Clayton gradu-
ated from high school in
2005 at age 82. He had
dropped out of
Collinsville (Alabama)
High School to enter the
service during World War
II, where he participated
in some of the fiercest
fighting in the European
theater, for example D-
Day and the Battle of the
Bulge.
65 years later his
former high school
wanted to award him with
Dorman Clayton
his long-delayed high
school diploma and to
honor him for his military service. They did just that at the 2005 gradu-
ation.
Those attending the ceremony gave him a standing ovation
twice: once when he received his diploma and again when he was
honored for his heroic war-time service. He later admitted that that
high school graduation ceremony was one of the happiest occasions
of his life.
Thanks to the incredible volunteer work of Adam Crocker
(CHS 1998) and Joey Knapp (CHS 1988), CHS’s legendary teacher
James Montgomery’s website is now complete at mistermont.com.
Adam and Joey have posted over 1,500 pictures covering Mr. Mont’s
classes in his 40 years of teaching at CHS. In effect, there are now 40
years of CHS history on line, covering 1962-2005.
