Columbia High School
Columbia High School, which had previously been known as
the Peabody Institute, was begun in 1889 at 200 West St. Johns
Street. The graduating class in those early years usually had 8 - 12
students. The curriculum consisted of courses in Algebra, Arithmetic,
Geography, Geometry, Grammar, History, Latin, Penmanship, Phys-
ics, Physiology, and Spelling.
