Junior ROTC is an education in
itself. The purpose of the program is
to provide high school students with
opportunities for leadership
development in the interest of
national security. JROTC is a
cooperative program between the
United States Army and the high
school. It gives the students of
C.H.S. the chance to learn basic
military knowledge and skills, but its
primary goal is to develop a feeling

of self-discipline and leadership in
the hearts of its participants.
Enrollment in the JROTC program
does not obligate any student to
· pursue a future in the armed forces.
The student learns to be self-reliant
and the skills he develops from this
course will be of benefit in any
career he may choose.
JROTC engages in functions such
as marching in the parades, fund
raising projects and honoring the
tiger fans by presenting the colors in
pregame shows. Field trips, picnics,
and the annual Christmas party and
military ball all highlight the year.
JROTC was introduced to
Columbia County in 1974. Now
