Its Been the Year of the Peanut

The war was over, the South had
risen again. This time on a remark-
able journey, one that led, in only
two years from the peanut fields '
and red clay of south Georgia, to
America's highest office. Jimmy
Carter at the age of 52, was the 39th
President of the United States.
Jimmy Carter took oath in January
of 1977. As soon as he became
President he plunged immediately
and vigorously into his work. Within
the first day of office he had issued
his first executive order pardoning
all Viet Nam era draft evadors who
were not involved in violent anti war
acts.
