1997-98 J.V. Lady Tiger Basketball Team had only two
players that had knowledge of the game and basketball
experience at the middle school level.
Overall these young ladies performed quite well as a team
for Columbia High considering the fact, that most of them
were 1mmature in the basic fundamental skills of basketball.
Their hard work and dedication improved the team from a
wea opponent to a strong competitor. Two proudest or
greatest moments for this team: Competition against
Valdosta, Georgia Junior Varsity Team in a home game on
11-22-97 and they defeated the Tigers by a margin of two
points. Valdosta played two of their starting Varsity players
in the second ha f against CHS. On December 13, 1997, the
Tigers were victorious against Ocala Forest (11 wins 0 loss
record) in their home town This was a big upset for Forest
but a great victory for CHS
I believe this was my best season of coaching since the
majority of my girls were beginners. I loved coaching,
teaching and observing them while they learn the funda-
mental skills of basketball. It was a thrill at the time. Hard
work, dedication and discipline gave this team a record of 9
wins and 8 losses. I am very proud of the girls who did not
give up when the going got tough. lnorder to be successful,
you must work hard, be dedicated, have self discipline and
have faith that you can do everything through Christ, who
gives you strength.
