Lake City, Florida: A Sesquicentennial Tribute (2009) H. Morris Williams, Dr. Kevin M. McCarthy
Chapter Fifteen: 1950 - 1959
As Lake City expanded more and more to the west during
the 1960s and 1970s, a move caused by the building of I-75, the
downtown area changed into more of a collection of local govern-
ment buildings, banks, and businesses. Some stores closed and moved
to be closer to the interstate highways, and the downtown area dete-
riorated, but it would revive in the 1990s. The population of Lake
City in 1950 was 7,571.
