Lake City, Florida: A Sesquicentennial Tribute (2009) H. Morris Williams, Dr. Kevin M. McCarthy

                                                                       Chapter Nine: 1890 - 1899

According to the Dictionary of Florida Historic Places the
T.G. Henderson House at 207 South Marion Street (pictured below)
is one of the sites of historical significance in Lake City (the other
being the Hotel Blanche). Architects George W. Barber and Asso-
ciates designed the house, which was built in 1894, as an excellent
                                 example of Eastlake dwelling. 30

Lake City continued its expansion of railroad facilities when
workers completed the Georgia Southern and Florida Railway and
connected it to Macon, Georgia, in 1895. In addition to railroads,
local officials had roads built and paved to connect Lake City to other
towns in Florida, especially as more and more people bought auto-
                                 mobiles.

The Georgia Southern and Florida Railway, seen here in the
early 20th century, connected Lake City to Georgia.
